E P Latha elected first mayor of Kannur Corporation

KANNUR: The LDF has assumed power in the newly formed Kannur Corporation after the dramatic events witnessed until the last moment.

E P Latha of the CPM has been elected the first mayor of the corporation.

Congress rebel P K Ragesh voted in favour of the LDF. He voted as the 55th councilor. Suma Balakrishnan was the UDF’s mayor candidate.

In the 55-member corporation, both the fronts obtained 27 seats each. The rebel’s vote was crucial due to this. Soon after casting his vote, Ragesh left in the car waiting outside.
