THRISSUR: An unexpected win for the UDF in the Irinjalakudy municipality reserved for Scheduled Caste chairperson.In the 41-member in the municipality, both the fronts achieved 19 seats each. The UDF caught hold of power after a vote of the CPM member was found invalid held for the chairman polls.
Nimya Shiju, who won from Chalampadam division, was elected as the chairperson. Meenakshai Joshy, who won from the 13th ward was the chairperson candidate of the CPM. Meantime, C K Sahadevan of the LDF was elected chairman of Batheri municipality. This was after a member of the Kerala Congress (M) voted for the LDF. The UDF got the chairman post through lots held at the Mannarcaud municipality.
SubmitAjitha Jayaraj of the CPM in the LDF will become the mayor in Thrissur Corporation where both fronts do not have an absolute majority.
Ajitha will serve as the mayor in the first three years.
The post will be given to the CPI in the fourth year. The CPM will take over the post in the fifth year.
Varghese Kandakkulam of the CPM will become the deputy mayor. He will serve for the first four years and in the fifth year the post will be given to the CP Irinjalakuda municipality for UDFI.
