Re-polling continues in Malappuram and Thrissur

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Re-polling in 105 booths in Malappuram and nine in Thrissur where electronic voting machines developed snags are progressing. Meantime, the voting machines in some booths in Malappuram developed a snag but was replaced with a new one. A long queue of voters is being noticed in the morning itself.

More than 250 machines in Malappuram alone malfunctioned during the polls yesterday. Though it was repaired, it malfunctioned again. The explanation of the election commission that it was 'unnatural' that so many EVMs had developed the snag in the 'press button' during the voting process. 

Though the snag is unnatural, the malfunctioning of so many machines at a time are seen for the first time. Stickers and paper were seen stuffed in the machine.
