Water level in Pamba recedes

SABARIMALA: As the rain weakened today in Sabarimala, the Pamba river that was breaching its bank and overflowing till today morning started flowing normally, bringing respite to thousands of devotees here.

Hundreds of vehicles that had been submerged under the flooding water were pulled out using tractors. Fire force personnel, police men and around five thousand Ayyappa devotees pulled out the vehicles. Three contract persons who had come for works in the temple fell into a canal. Out of that Thiruvananthapuram Sashthamangalam native Gireesh Kumar’s backbone and legs were injured.

He has been admitted to Medical College Hospital.  Others’ injuries are not that serious.

The incident happened around 11 pm at 8 km away from Sannidhanam near Kunnar dam, where the pilgrims slipped at the walkway and fell into the canal underneath the path. Gireesh had smashed against a rock during the fall.

The disaster Management team under Deputy commander G Vijayan rushed to the spot and started the rescue works then.
