KOLLAM: As many as 124 cases of foreign liquor were seized from a mini lorry on Thursday, after tip-off by Excise Intelligence. The liquor was concealed inside secret racks in the lorry.
Karthikapalli Excise Range Inspector and his team carried out the operation. The lorry was spotted at 7 pm near a petrol pump at Karuvatta on NH road.
Driver Suresh Shenai, 49, from Mangalapuram, cleaner Muhammed Ali, 28, from Kasargode were arrested by Excise officials. Three ATM cards, Rs 1100 in cash and mobile phones were seized from them.
“They belonged to the group who smuggled foreign liquor from Goa to Kerala. The informed that facilitated the operation was given by Intelligence Inspector Anil Kumar under Excise Commissioner,” said Excise officials.
