RSP breaks away from LDF

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: RSP State Secretary A A Aziz told the media after party committee meeting on Saturday that “the RSP would no more be a part of the LDF”. He said the CPM had grabbed the Kollam Lok Sabha seat from the party. As they had no plans to give back the seat, the party would contest the election on its own.

“Now, even if the CPM offers some other seat or Kollam seat itself, RSP will not be game for that. As the party has decided to go it alone in the election, it ceases to be an LDF partner. Hence, the party will accept external support from any other party. The decision is yet to be made on joining the UDF. Efforts will also be made to unify two factions in the RSP,” the leader said.

Aziz said the RSP had had to undergo harassment from the CPM. First the CPM took away three seats from the existed nine. After that two seats were seized; one Assembly seat was also taken. “Kollam constituency is the ‘heart’ of the RSP. We had written to the CPM six moths ago, seeking to return the seat. The request has fallen on deaf ears. Out of the 20 seats, 15 were taken by the CPM, four seats went to the CPI and they have kept aside just Idduki seat, something like charity, for us.”

He said the CPM had been trying to weaken the influence of RSP on the State. “Now there is no point in existing in the front as just passive onlookers. CPM is responsible for muddling the Front. After calling us for bilateral talks, they said there was no seat for us. It was through TV channels we came to know about their plans for further talks. But till date they have not called us for discussions,” Aziz added.
